NICOSIA, CYPRUS

The mission of the Women in Mathematical Sciences in Cyprus (WMSC) network  is to provide support for women scientists working in the area of mathematics and related sciences in Cyprus and serves as the local branch of the European Women in Mathematics (EWM) Association.  WMSC will host for the first time in Cyprus the exhibition “Women of Mathematics from around the world; A gallery of Portraits” as a travelling exhibition across different academic organizations in Cyprus for a total of four months.

The exhibition will be accompanied or incorporated to related events in each location:

Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus (March 3-15, 2023):   The exhibition will be hosted and accompanied by International Women's Day and Women in STEM campaign School celebrations. Visits from high school students will be arranged. A short presentation will be given on the 17th of March 2023 to PhD students of the European University EUCONEXUS about GEP and Campaigns of the University, including information on the Exhibition.

University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus (March 17-31,2023):  The exhibition will be highlighted at a short talk at the Cyprus Human Genetics Society Conference (17-18/3) to raise awareness among the delegates of the conference who will be able to attend the exhibition during the meeting. The exhibition will be also  attended by the students, academic staff and visitors of the University.

Cyprus Institute, Nicosia, Cyprus (April 3-24, 2023): The exhibition will be attended by students visiting the institute for the Scyence Fair (April 5th). The exhibition will be also attended by the students, academic staff and visitors of the Institute.

European University Cyprus – EUC, Nicosia, Cyprus (April 26 – May 8, 2023):  The exhibition, which will be located in the Cultural Center Lobby (university main Lobby), will be attended by European University Cyprus students, faculty, and visitors. Participants of the 4th International Conference on Current Advances in Biomedical Sciences to take place on April 27-28, and of the Regulation and Enforcement in the Digital Age 2023 Conference to be held on May 5 at the Cultural Center, will also visit the moving exhibition.

Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, Nicosia, Cyprus (May 10-26, 2023):  The exhibition will be located in the entrance lobby of the Institute and will be attended by the students, staff, patients and visitors at the Institute as well as attendees of the 1st Women Mathematical Sciences in Cyprus Workshop which will take place on May the 12th. This workshop will serve as a platform to showcase the work of women scientists working in Cyprus in mathematics who will present their scientific journey portraits to the wider scientific community, inspired by the exhibition. The workshop will take place in May to join the global celebrations that take place in May for women mathematicians  (May12 initiativehttps://may12.womeninmaths.org/) in memory of  Maryam Mirzakhani who was born  on the 12th May 1977 and  earned the Fields Medal for her outstanding contributions in mathematics.

University of Nicosia, Nicosia, Cyprus (May 29- June 13, 2023):  The exhibition will be attended by University of Nicosia students, faculty and guests, as well as the members of the newly founded Centre for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (CEDI), which supports the exhibition. In addition, the 4th Pancyprian Conference in Statistics will take place on June 9th.At the conference, among other sessions, there will also be a session related to gender equality / women in sciences. The participants of the conference will visit the moving exhibition.

Neapolis University, Paphos, Cyprus (June 15-29, 2023): The exhibition will be attended by the Neapolis University students, academic staff and visitors of the University. At this point in time there is no organized event that will accompany the exhibition however several events are organized by the University. If there is one available, it will accompany the moving exhibition as it is one of the priorities of the Neapolis University to support women in sciences.
