There are prejudices about mathematicians, who are often viewed as introverts, not very sociable and not very useful people. From my experience, I know that there are many mathematicians who are quite the opposite.
Mathematics is an overarching subject and offers a way of life. With a serious education in mathematics, you can approach problems in a certain way, thinking on an abstract level and generalizing to try to find a common thread to different problems.
